Creating a Gandi handle

In order for Gandi to be able to identify you, we give you a type of ID called a ”Handle”.

A Gandi handle consists of a couple of letters followed by a number and ending with -GANDI. Handles are important for a number of reasons, the most important being that it is a convenient way to add people as contacts of a domain. Once created, the name associated with a handle cannot be changed.

It is therefore very important that you provide accurate and complete information when you make your Gandi handle. This is because once your handle is associated with the registered domain(s), the legal owner or administrative, technical, or billing contact of the domain is defined by the information provided when the handle was made.

Unless you live in France and are registering a .fr domain (the form is slightly longer), you will need to fill out the following form to create your handle. The first part involves selecting the type of account, and the name and address of the person or entity that will be represented by the Gandi handle.

Below each box there are helpful hints for correctly filling in the information. Please read them carefully to avoid making any mistakes that will hold up the creation of your domain:

Please be sure that you use the correct international format for your telephone number. For example, if you live in the United States and your telephone number is: (319)-555-5943, then you would need to enter:

+1.3195555943

…including the + and the dot, just like it looks above. The number between the + and the . is the country code for where you live (+44 for England, +47 for Norway, +34 for Spain, +49 for Germany, etc.):

At the bottom, you can see a button, ”Anti-spam protection”. Selecting “yes” will encrypt your e-mail address in our whois so that spammers will not be able to get your real e-mail address by using the public whois database.

If you provide a fake name when creating your account, that “person” or “company” will then be the legal owner of the domain and not you. Additionally, false and misleading information may lead to a domain name being suspended and/or deleted, as correct registration information is required by our General Sales Conditions.
