How to manage glue records

If you have a domain name at Gandi that you use for nameservers and need to add or change the IPv4 and/or IPv6 Addresses of these servers, our interface lets you do this quickly and by yourself.

Begin by logging into your domain name with the reseller, owner, administrative or technical contact.

Then, in your domain's control panel, look to the DNS section on the bottom right hand corner:

Then, click on the link that says “Glue record management”. This will take you to the glue record management page.

Creating a glue record

Please do not confuse this with adding an A record to point your domain or subdomain to a web server. To see how to to that, visit our zonefile management page.

To create glue records, add the host name you want to declare, and the IP address of the server you want to map it to. You can add multiple IP addresses (both IPv4 and IPv6) by entering them on separate lines, like in the example below:

Editing the IP addresses of a glue record

To change the IP address of your glue record, click on the “modify” pen icon that corresponds to the glue record to modify:

You will then see a pop-up where you can edit the IP addresses corresponding to the host name. When you are done, click “validate.”

Deleting a glue record

EPP standards do not allow for the deletion of a glue record if it is used by a domain name. Before deleting a glue record, you must be sure that it is not currently in use as a nameserver of any domain, whether at Gandi or not.

To change the IP address of your glue record, click on the “delete” X icon that corresponds to the glue record to delete, and is next to the modify icon shown in the above image.
