How do I create my own animations and widgets?

You can create your own animations and widgets using Macromedias Flash software, or any other software that outputs '.swf' files. You can get a trial version of Flash from www.adobe.com (previously a Macromedia product) and then buy the full version if you are happy with it.

Creating your own animations or widgets (or having them built for you) will work with the SiteMaker software as long as they conform to some basic guidelines:

  • The SWF must be running at 24 fps (frames per second)
  • The file should be exported for Flash Player 7 or 8
  • Replace any 'absolute' references to _root (in action script code) with 'relative' references (this, _parent etc)
  • Mask any animation that goes outside the SWF boundary
  • The generated Flash file must be a self-contained SWF and created using an 'acceptable' Flash generator

If you create your own Flash file or have one built for you then please ensure that it adheres to the above rules.

It is the creator's responsibility to ensure that it conforms to our requirements and to test or verify that it works.
