Pointing a domain to a server

If your domain name is registered with Gandi, please start by checking that:

  • the domain is using Gandi's DNS, and that
  • the handle on which the server is installed is the owner, administrative or technical contact of the domain name in question.

If your domain name does not use Gandi's DNS, is not registered with Gandi, or the owner handle of the VPS is not listed as the owner, administrative or technical contact of the domain in question, this procedure is not possible. The zone file will instead need to be manually modified by adding the following records:

  • @ 10800 IN A [IP address of your server]
  • * 10800 IN A [IP address of your server]

Attach the domain name to the server

On the right-hand side of the domain name's control panel, you will see “Gandi Cloud VPS Hosting”. Click on “Manage”:

On the following screen, you will be able to specify the Gandi Cloud VPS server that you want the domain to point to. Select the server that you want to connect your domain or subdomain to (by default the subdomain “www” is added, so remember that if your virtualhost on your server is just the domain you must leave it empty).

You will then see a confirmation page, where you can “Submit” or add/edit subdomains to point to the server.

A propagation delay of about 3 hours will be necessary before the change is taken into account.
