====== How to edit a domain's zone file ======

To add a resource record (like a CNAME or A record) to your domain name's zone file, you need to follow these steps.


===== 1. Go to the domain's management page =====

Go to your domain's management page and look down to the "Zone files" area that is on the bottom right-hand side of the page.


===== 2. Create a copy of the zone file (if necessary) =====






==== If zone file is not editable ====

=== Click "Create a copy": ===

=== Rename the zone file (if desired) and click Submit: ===

You will see a message that says "The zone file has been copied and associated to your domain":

===== 3. Click "Edit the zone" =====

Now, at the bottom of the page under "Zone files" you will see a link to "Edit the zone". Click the link:

==== Create a new version if necessary ====

If the copy you just made of the original zone file was a "public" zone (i.e. Gandi default), it will already been activated. You cannot edit an active zone file, so you must click "Create a new version."

===== 4. Make your changes =====

You can now make changes to the new version in "[[:en:dns:zone:normal|normal]]" or "[[:en:dns:zone:expert|expert]]" mode by selecting from the dropdown menu on the right-hand side of the page. It looks like this:

===== 5. Activate =====

Once you are done making your changes, click "Use this version":

You will be prompted to confirm:

And should then receive confirmation:

Note that **changes to your zone file will take from several minutes to several hours to propagate!**
